We were given an old pencil drawing of a lion on parchment, as our inspiration for this piece for an elegant and slightly more masculine setting.
We used various techniques to create this unique oil painting of a young lion, evocative of both antique travel sketches, as well as the famous Stubbs horse portraits, minimizing the background to emphasize the subject.
Our clients wanted a piece to remind them of a favorite travel destination in Italy, and needed it to fit in a specific area. They wanted an oil painting with vibrant colors and loose brushstrokes. We researched the best view point of this gorgeous Italian seaside town, and using a wide collection of source images, created a unique and unforgettable sunset scene over the harbor.
We also created a custom frame that both highlighted the oil painting, but was harmonious with the surrounding home.
Continuing the theme of favorite travel destinations, our client had a favorite photo from their travels to Santorini, one of the most loved Greek islands.
Our client was looking for a statement piece over a rustic stone fireplace with a reclaimed wood mantle. The challenge was to evoke the subtle warm tones of the stone and wood, but to not allow the oil painting to become lost in the stone. We created this wide landscape with a deep field of view to fit in an unusually narrow space, and included some darker frame and shadows to create contrast in the room.
In this case, one of our favorite clients had a very specific theme, which was to include magnolias and soft blue gray colors. It was also requested on a very short timeframe, as the piece was needed to for the room to be ready for a professional photoshoot. We were able to design and execute the oil painting, as well a create a custom silver gilt frame and install it within a week.
Our client wanted a piece that showcased their cherished Scottish heritage, with an oil painting in the 19th century style, with a historic ornate gilded frame. We were able to create a beautiful painting of the family castle, while ensuring that the perpetual clouds of Scotland were dramatic without any gloom.
One of the most interesting ways to hide technology, we installed our completed painting and frame in conjunction with a audio-visual specialist on a moving frame that hid the television.
Inspired by vintage advertisements from a long gone Belgian bank, featuring vignettes of a wealthy man and his devoted butler, we have started a three-painting series for a client. The first large format oil painting features the butler creating shade for his napping employer. For this painting we selected a 4 1/2" wide antiqued gold acanthus leaf frame, one of our favorites.
The second large format oil painting in the series features the ridiculous notion that the butler can warm the ocean with his teapot, so that his employer can swim more comfortably. For this we painting we selected a matching acanthus leaf frame, finished in black with gold.
Along with this series we also created a Wasp series for the client. Here two of the three completed painting hang alongside the When You Are Used To Being Spoiled series paintings.
The wasps were done in a highly detailed, hyper-realistic style, offset by a simple modern black background, and framed in coordinating metallics.
Another painting for the client paid homage to the great Johnny Cash's irreverent flippin' the bird at San Quentin Prison, rendered in black and white oils, on a Japanese-style gilded background, using squares of 24k gold over traditional red paint.
Gold leaf was traditionally used to embellish deities in Japanese art, which inspired this painting.
This landscape evokes the wide open prairie of North Dakota. Its simplicity is balanced by the ornate copper frame with antique patina.
Our client was looking for two coordinating pieces in a warm golden toned family room to frame the central piece of furniture. We selected warm, muted blues, greens and gold from the antique rug to create landscapes in a primitive style in oils on unstretched canvas, pinned to the wall.
The client had previously seen this new style of unstretched canvas with frayed edges, and wanted to recreate it with her own selected subjects and colors. The client's designer selected the furniture tacks to pin it to the wall in lieu of traditional framing and hanging methods.
